I procured my very first non-DIY cassette tape at fifth grade. This was in 1982, and it was a Duran Duran pirated compilation. At 1999, when I was already working, I obtained the last of my cassette tapes. Among those last ones had been 1997’s Baduizm by Erykah Badu.
In high school, I got DIY cassette tapes from the shops High Adventure and Apple Picker of the likes of Soul Mining and Infected by The The, The Flowers of Romance and This Is What You Want... This Is What You Get by Public Image Ltd, Strange Times by The Chameleons, and Batastrophe by Specimen.
I had Loveless by My Bloody Valentine, Nevermind by Nirvana, and Dirt by Alice in Chains on cassette tape on the first week of their sale at the music shops, owing to too much adoration I gave to each, so I never thought I would ever need to have them on compact disc or digital formats.
At 1992, I then procured my very first compact discs: Little Earthquakes by Tori Amos, Down Colorful Hill by Red House Painters, Good by Morphine, and Painful by Yo La Tengo. All four, I absolutely yet still love.
Teenage Snuff Film, the debut solo album by Rowland S. Howard; The Complete Town Hall Concert by Charles Mingus; Dry, the debut studio album by P J Harvey; I Could Live in Hope, the debut studio album by Low; Peel Sessions Plus (1979–82) by The Teardrop Explodes; and Blood, the last studio album by This Mortal Coil are among my favorite CDs that I own.
1994’s The Chief Assassin to the Sinister by Three Mile Pilot and 1996’s Thirty-Three single by The Smashing Pumpkins had been my first bargain bin compact discs, which I still truly cherish.
I likewise relish owning on CD Pornography, 2005 deluxe edition by the Cure; The Best of the Black President by Fela Kuti; OK Computer by Radiohead (being the first CD of theirs I owned); A Carrot Is As Close As A Rabbit Gets To A Diamond by Captain Beefheart; Mi Sueño by Ibrahim Ferrer; 99.9 F° by Suzanne Vega; BMG by Yellow Magic Orchestra; Fire Dances by Killing Joke; Cru by Sue Jorge; and We Can Create by Maps.
I no longer have any of my old cassette tapes.
Also, I co-owned compact discs (and books, too) with my first boyfriend, most of which went with him afterwards because I owed his credit card lots. Anyhow, following that travesty, I now hold every single CD I own. In fact, I do still own some eight big boxes of compact discs.
